The Global Health Certificate Course is an international innovative course structured to raise critical thinkers. This course introduces theories and concepts including current trends, issues, challenges and debates in global health to provide a critical understanding of the determinants that shape the current global health situation. The course aims at enhancing knowledge and understanding of current challenges in global health. Each global health course produces a new breed of global health leaders who join the network of young global health leaders.
Course Structure
The course employs a cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approach in understanding global health issues.
It starts with a 4 day online e-learning pre-course preparatory readings then proper 2-3 days of class based learning. The e-learning pre-course materials are uploaded to be downloaded and read by prospective students before the course starts.
Topics included in this course are particularly chosen and designed to cover the important challenges the world faces today.
- Class based learning forms 90 % and e-learning 10%.
- Class based learning starts around 8.00am – 5.00pm with short breaks in between.

Course Director
Professor Don Eliseo Lucero Prisno III is a medical doctor who is a specialist in global health and public health.
He finished a PhD in Global Health at Cardiff University in the UK, a Master of Science in Health Economics, Policy and Law (specialization in Global Health) from Erasmus University Rotterdam and Master of Public Health (International Course in Health and Development) from the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam.
He is an Associate Professor of Public Health (Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University), Honorary Lecturer of Public Health (University of Liverpool), Senior Lecturer of International Health (University of the Philippines) and Research Fellow in Medical Research-International Health (Ludwig Maximilian University Munich).
Don has published in the fields of global health and public health in scientific journals and has authored book chapters. His work has been recognized by a number of international awards including the first Global Health Promotion Practice Award by the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE).

Who are the target participants?
The certificate course is aimed at those with relevant academic backgrounds – current enrolment at undergraduate level or postgraduate level. These includes postgraduate students, senior medical students and young professionals who are considering careers in global health and those who want to widen their knowledge on global health with developmental issues. We accept students with backgrounds in medicine, law, nutrition, public/international health, political science, sociology, anthropology and other fields. This is an interactive and intensive course but does not need prior knowledge of the subject matters. Students must have an adequate level of English though we accept without official language tests unless otherwise stated.
